FLINT – Flint area businesses are getting some extra attention.  A visit to Flint in late February by the Federal Administrator of the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Maria Contreras-Sweet, was the occasion for announcing a special allocation of funds for helping to start or grow small businesses in Flint.

Small business assistance in Michigan has been provided for over 38 years by the SBA’s program partner The Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC).  The I-69 Trade Corridor Regional Office of MI-SBDC, which serves a 7 county region, is located in Flint and hosted by Kettering University.

MI-SBDC is a statewide organization funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U. S. Small Business Administration, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and through local host support. The MI-SBDC provides no cost counseling, business education, planning assistance and guidance for any new ventures, existing and growing businesses, and innovative technology ventures.

MI-SBDC has professional, experienced counselors that are available by appointment Monday-Friday through the MI-SBDC regional office located at Kettering University by calling 810-762-9660 or by registering at www.startgrowflint.org

Starting Tuesday, April 26, the Flint MI-SBDC office will offer an additional counseling site that will be open on Tuesdays from 9-5 at the Oak Business Center (OBC), 2712 N. Saginaw Street through a partnership of the MI-SBDC and City of Flint.   Additional service days and hours may be added at Oak Business Center as needed.  For information or an appointment at either location, call 810-762-9660.

New business education workshops are being added as well, all of which will be available to Flint businesses at no cost.  A rolling calendar of training and events is posted on the www.startgrowflint.org website.  Flint activities can be searched easily by Location “At Center” FLINT.
