Liz brings over 20 years of experience in management, operations, finance, sales and marketing working with organizations of all sizes. Her passion for small business success served her well for 12 years as Vice President of the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce. Additionally Liz is a serial entrepreneur and has started several small businesses throughout her career. She is an innovative problem-solver who embraces technology and online solutions, including e-commerce and digital marketing.

Liz holds a BA in Business Administration from Alma College, and an MBA in International Business from the Thunderbird School of International Management/Arizona State University.

Areas of expertise include:  in-depth business plan development, initial start-up, strategic plan development, industry information and comparisons, marketing, sales, technology, financial management and cash flow projections, organizational development, taxes and regulations, sources of funding, research, and problem-solving.

George Fotis is a Certified Business Consultant at the Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC). George owned a successful family uniform business for over 20 years, with revenue growth from under $1 million to over $35 million at the time they were acquired. While revenue growth was his main focus, like most small business owners George was involved in every aspect of the business including sales and marketing, HR, operations, finance, E-commerce, retail and multi-channel marketing strategies. Now, George leverages his past experience in entrepreneurship to help other Michigan small businesses start and grow through his work at the Michigan SBDC.

Jamaal has gained experience over the past 10 years through several roles in banking and finance, most recently administering a microloan program designed to help underserved businesses gain access to capital in West Michigan. Jamaal works with community organizations and small business owners across the state of Michigan to ensure business resources are accessible to traditionally underserved markets (women, people of color, low-to-moderate income). Jamaal holds a BBA in Sales and Business Marketing and a MBA in Business Administration from Western Michigan University.

Ed Garner serves as the Regional Director of the West Michigan Region SBDC. He previously served as President/CEO of Muskegon Area First, a private, non-profit corporation serving all of Muskegon County. Garner is currently the Board President of the Urban League of Greater Muskegon and the Board Treasurer for the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District. During his career, Ed has been recognized for having the best Satellite SBTDC Center in 1999 and the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1998. Garner has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University and Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Michigan State University.

Marie Elliott has been counseling small businesses for over nine years and has over 13 years of experience in the human resources and educational fields. She is a business consultant with the West Michigan SBDC office. Marie serves the counties of Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Osceola and Newaygo within West Michigan. Marie holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Systems Management from Ferris State University.
