Small Business Spotlight – Break Room Therapy

January 10, 2020 - 2 minutes read

Ready to let off some steam? Dawn Levian approached the West Michigan SBDC with the idea of starting West Michigan’s first “rage room” where customers are encouraged to break items with the tool of their choice. Whether customers are dealing with stress, grief, and frustration, or just want to have some fun, Break Room Therapy is a place where they can come to let it all out.

When Dawn first met  with West Michigan SBDC Consultant George Fotis, she was looking to complete her business plan, secure funding, and find a space to lease for her business. George was able to assist Dawn in writing and reviewing her business plan, which ultimately helped to secure a $30,000 loan. Dawn also competed in Start Garden’s 100 Ideas competition and was selected to receive funding.  Soon after, Dawn found a location to open up Break Room Therapy in Bryon Center, Michigan.

“I knew what I wanted to do in the end but wasn’t sure exactly how to get there. I had done a lot of research and had a pretty good idea of the steps needed, but the SBDC helped me confirm those steps and added confidence in my journey,” says Dawn.

Break Room Therapy is the first of its kind in West Michigan, and Dawn has many ideas on how to give back to the community. Among these ideas are discounts for military and service members.  Today, customers can secure their “rage” at Break Room Therapy by making a reservation or a walk-in appointment.
