An extremely active year, serving a mix of both new entrepreneurs and existing companies. We served over 11,000 businesses throughout the 12-region/83-county area through one-to-one counseling and small business workshops.

We also served an increasing number of existing businesses requiring more in-depth services. The Michigan Legislature, at year end, awarded Michigan SBDC with funds to be used to provide state cash match to federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants.

This year the SBDC launched a virtual incubator, Accelerating Michigan Entrepreneurs (AME), in an effort to use technology to serve a greater number of small business owners in their desire to grow their existing companies.

In 2007-2008 the SBDC immersed itself in the Balanced Scorecard process, creating an effective management system for the vast amount of services being provided for small businesses.
